BLM Action Plan Project Moving Forward with Visits to Oregon and Washington

During the week of September 10 – 15 National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) staff members Geoff Chain and Marc Hildesheim, along with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) OHV Subject Matter Expert, Brad Colin, visited five cities in Oregon and Washington. At each city a listening session was held with local OHV enthusiasts to determine what the BLM can do to provide a better OHV recreation experience. These meetings were part of the larger BLM National Motorized Recreation Strategy which came out in 2014. NOHVCC and the BLM have partnered to apply that strategy at a state level by engaging in a grassroots process that allows local users to help determine what the BLM’s trail program will look like.

Pros and Cons of Four-Wheeling Alone

Bob said he had to get back. We were two days into a 3 day trip through the Mojave Desert. He assured me that he knew the way back. At one-point Bob arrived at a river crossing. He had crossed it several times in the past. Normally it was only 8 to 12 inches deep. It wasn’t that day. The water was about 24 inches deep and running strong. Bob tried to cross but got stuck and flooded his engine. After retrieving most of his gear, Bob set up camp along one bank. Thankfully, another vehicle came along about two hours later. They towed his vehicle to the highway where Bob called AAA.

Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative Grants More Than $130,000 in 2nd Quarter

Funds Support Outdoor Recreation Opportunities through ATV, SxS, Motorcycle and Snowmobile Projects

KENNESAW, Ga. – September 13, 2018 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, the powersports leader in supporting outdoor recreation, today announces the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI) awarded more than $130,000 in funds and equipment to 11 grant applicants in the second quarter of 2018. 

In the past decade, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative granted more than $3.5 million supporting the program’s mission of guaranteeing responsible access to land for outdoor recreation, staking a clear claim in the powersports industry as the unprecedented leader in supporting those who work and play outdoors.

Projects funded this past quarter support opportunities for a variety of off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, including those using ATVs, Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicles, motorcycles and snowmobiles for outdoor recreation enjoyment.
