SITUATION - Oppose applications to California OHMV Commission

There are two extreme preservationist who have applied to the Governor for appointment to the California OHMV Commission. They are John Brissenden and Howard Wilshire. Both of these gentlemen have contributed to "In the Money and Out of Control".

John Brissenden is from Northern California. Northern California OHV clubs and individuals have already written letters opposing his appointment.

Howard Wilshire is well know in the Southern California environmental preservationist community.

Some of the members of this anti-access coalition have already succeeded in placing their leaders on the Commission through legislative appointments.

The Governor's appointments will hold the balance of power in the future on the Commission.

WHAT TO DO

It is suggested that all concerned California OHV recreation activist notify, by letter, the Governor's office that these candidates for the OHMVR Commission would not be in the best interest of OHV recreation in California.

Provide polite, pointed and concise comment. Let the Governor know that there is a need for equal representation on this important board. This is an opportunity for all OHV enthusiasts and concerned outdoor recreationalist to have a proactive impact on the process.

WHAT TO SAY

The following are suggestions for your letter:

Wilshire is not a moderate centrist appointee like those that have become the hallmark of Governor Davis' Administration.

These gentlemen have contributed to a publication "In the Money and Out of Control" which has labeled the OHMVR Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation a "rogue agency".

They are members of a coalition which seeks to destroy the 30 year old program which allows millions of California families to enjoy outdoor recreation in a regulated setting and in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.

If the letter writers have had any prior experience or encounters with Wilshire, those specific incidents should be included in your letter.
