CalROCS Announces 2010 4x4 Rock Crawling Competition Season Schedule

CalROCS is a grassroots rock crawling series that is sanctioned by W.E. Rock. In its third full season, the CalROCS series attracts competitors from the entire western region with some of the wildest, coolest and perhaps weirdest looking vehicles you have ever seen, from fairly stock looking jeeps to incredible “Moon Buggies”. There is non-stop action for the two-day events with each competitor running four courses with no shortage of carnage, rollovers and incredible displays of driving talent. All of the CalROCS events will also include Radio Controlled Rock Crawling Competitions.

The competition was stiff in 2009 where four out of the five classes came down to the last day to determine the 2009 Champions. In the Stock Class, Dan Patterson took first place in all four events, and will be back in 2010 to attempt to continue his domination. In the full body class, “Welder Boy” and Mike Bou both had two firsts and two seconds, and in a one round shoot-out to determine the champion, Mike Bou won by two points. The Pro-Mod Buggy class came down to a battle between Jeff Mello and teammate Brian Whitford with Brian slightly edging ahead for the Championship. The Super Mod Class also came down to the last round of competition where Derek Trent from Trent Fab took the win over Pirates of the Rubicon brothers Dustin & Tim Emick. In the Unlimited Class, where the buggys are built and the competition is strong, Brent Bradshaw in the Scrapper won at the final Donner Ski Ranch event to edge out Dave Wong in his 4-wheel steer buggy.

The line up for the 2010 year will be just as intense. CalROCS is designed to keep the costs down so virtually anyone can participate in this series, and have fun doing it. The Reno events will also feature Extreme MX and the first Donner event will feature a live band on Saturday night. More information on the specific events is available at www.calrocs.com.

W.E. Rock Western US National Series Opener This Weekend

Fifty of the Nations best drivers will be at this weekends competition.  Fighting it out in the Pro Modified Class will be National Champions Brad Lovell, Tracy Jordan, Shannon Campbell and multiple time World Champion Dean Bulloch, who are just a few of the premier full bodies vehicles that will be doing insane maneuvers that you never thought was possible.

In 2009 the W.E. Rock series produced a number of epic battles in each of the four classes including Pro Modified, Unlimited, Modified Stock, and Formula Toy.   The points battles came down to 3 or 4 point spreads over the 4 event season.  In the Pro Modified class, Brad Lovell had perfect scores in the first two rounds, and then dropped to Tracy Jordan who took the perfect scores in the final two rounds.  But Jordan made a 3 point mistake in the second round of competition that put him into 2nd place at the end of the season.  In the Unlimited Class, Cody Wagner and Jesse Haines had the same battle with both completing 2 rounds of competition with perfect 100 scores, but Haines was not as consistent and dropped to second place by only 3 points.

Justin Hall topped the charts with perfect scores at every event in the Modified Stock Class, but still only won the competition by 4 points.  The Formula Toy Class came down to the last round of competition with John James coming out on top, with a 1 point spread to Brian Ellinger in second and Jeff Mello in third.

This weekends competition will begin at 10am on Saturday March 27th and Sunday March 28th at the Surplus City Jeep Parts in Oroville, CA.  The two day adult pass is $25 with one day adult admission $15, ages 8-15 $5 and 7 under free. W.E. Rock is a great family friendly event to bring the kids and get them interested in rock crawling.

Volunteers Clean Up Desert

Volunteers from the Havasu 4 Wheelers picking up tons of trash on public lands on the eastern edge of Lake Havasu City.

“We owe the Havasu 4 Wheelers, corporate sponsors, and all the participants a huge thank you,” said BLM Lake Havasu Field Manager Ramone McCoy. “The area cleaned up off of Paseo Del Oro Drive and Bison Road is one of the problem areas where underage drinking, target shooting, and illegal dumping occurred.”

The BLM manages more land - 253 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.

The MFS 4405 Race-a-thon for Land Use

Much like a walk-a-thon, individuals can pledge any amount per mile made by Travis Carpenter in the grueling 135 mile off road race on February 12th. Furthermore, pledges can be made to any land use organization of the contributor’s choice. For example, a pledge of 25 cents a mile would amount to $33.75 if Travis completes the entire race.

While many individuals are donating smaller pledges, companies such as 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers and Motorsport Fabrication Services have pledged upwards of $8,200 each. The race-a-thon has also expanded to other drivers in the race, one example being the Tin Benders 4x4 club pledging on their own drivers for a possible $8,200.

Pledges are being tracked on www.Pirate4x4.com, the largest 4x4 website in the world, and pledges can be made by e-mailing the amount per mile, the driver, and the organization to be donated to at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Individuals are responsible for sending the amount donated after the race to whichever organization they have pledged to.

Billed as the “toughest one day off road race on the planet,” the Griffin King of the Hammers (www.kingofthehammers.com) has quickly become one of the biggest events in off-roading. With a mix of go-fast desert racing and hard-core rock crawling, the endurance race has attracted 100 of the most accomplished drivers in Rock-sports competitions.
