Sierra National Forest to hold public meetings on planning rule

In February 2012, USDA Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell selected the Sierra National Forest (SNF) as one of the first national forests to revise its Forest Plan using the new Forest Service planning rule. Since that time SNF has started work on a Forest Assessment designed to gather existing relevant information on current forest conditions and trends, to evaluate their sustainability, and to identify the need to change the existing plan by the end of 2013. SNF has also developed a Collaboration and Communication Plan to provide clear, consistent, and easily implementable guidance for Forest staff to involve the interested public, California Native American Tribes, public agencies and elected officials in the Forest Plan revision process.

T-shirt sales for Winter Fun end December 15

The upside to all of the weather that northern California is experiencing is the snow that is piling up on the trails that we will traverse for our annual Winter Fun Festival, coming to Grass Valley on January 11-13.

This not-to-miss event features a variety of runs, with names like Blizzard Brigade and Glacier Assault. There is even a historic run that visits a variety of sites, including a covered bridge and old mining towns.

Also included are meals prepared by our volunteers, along with entertainment and games. Camping facilities with RV hookups are available at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley where the event is held.

Proceeds from this event help to refill our coffers so that we can continue promoting safe and responsible four-wheeling and fighting to keep our trails open.
