BLM Issues Guidance for Implementing Greater Sage-Grouse Plans

Milestone Reached in Cooperative Sagebrush Habitat Conservation

WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today moved forward on its collaborative effort to conserve Greater Sage-Grouse and its habitat by issuing Instruction Memorandums (IMs) that clarify how aspects of the BLM’s land use plans will be implemented. These seven IMs relate to oil and gas leasing and development, grazing, and the collection and use of land management data.

PACK IT OUT EVEN IF NOT YOURS

PICKING UP AFTER OTHERS IS JUST A NECESSARY EVIL

Some people have no manners and just do not get it.

Keeping our backcountry open sometimes means getting our hands dirty -- even with other people's trash. It's ugly; it seems unnecessary; and it certainly isn't fair.  But as good stewards of our public lands, sometimes we just need to stop and clean up someone else's mess.

THERE'S NO ROOM FOR (OFF-ROAD) COWBOYS ANYMORE

The Days of Running Free and Riding Off Into the Sunset Are Only For the Movies!

But Freedoms Still Exist and We Need to Keep Them.

By Del Albright

This story is about off-pavement motorized recreation and how the "cowboy" claim to fame of riding free is just not real anymore.  Not for us as people who put a motor rather than an horse under us.

A Good Trail Master Masters Meal Planning

We were in a real jam. Two days into a 10-day trip in Monument Valley, mechanical problems forced two vehicles to head home. We hated to lose our the four-wheeling friends, but more importantly, we ran into a minor food crisis: How do we account for the meals those individuals were scheduled to prepare?

Each of us brought food for our designated meals, but we were counting on those individuals to contribute on their assigned days. Suddenly we were scrambling to account for their departure.

This incident, while not typical of a 4WD experience, does happen. A good Trail Master understands and accepts this, and factors it into trip planning. Of all the myriad decisions you make, one is how to handle meals.

Transformation Team Update - Document Needs a "Recreation" Goal

imageThis Sign Directed OHV Stakeholders to the Transformation Team Public Meeting in Ontario on Aug. 11, 2016

Introduction: I wanted to share my letter/thoughts with OHV stakeholders on the August 2016 Transformation Team Progress Report.  I think it takes steps in the right direction.  However, it needs to more fully incorporate "Recreation" into the soul of the document.  I have included the letter I sent to the Transformation Team today. I  think this report shows a “preservation culture” still exists at DPR.
