Spring Fever

Spring is finally here and a 4-wheeler's heart turns to the trails. The snow is melting in the mountains, the grass is green in the valleys, and the gears are getting antsy to turn on some nice and rough dirt and rock. Granite mountains and verdant meadows will soon awaken and we want to be there.

While you're checking out the camping gear and greasing up the rig, don't forget to check your notepad and pencil. We want your trail and trip reports - let us know what shape the trails are in, and keep us posted on the fun ahead. Also, you're welcome to use our Trails and Events bulletin board to plan your trips and keep in touch with others. The Trails and Events forum was set up just for this purpose.

If you haven't had a chance to look around for a while, the Outdoor Recreation Network has a new section that is very important to all of us. The Conservation and Recreational Access section is alive and well, thanks to the hard work of editor John Stewart. He's built a network that will keep us all informed of upcoming land use decisions - and we need to be informed and voice our opinions on these decisions to protect our right of access. John is building a place where all voices count, and all sides of these issues are aired.

We hope to add a lot more trails and trips this summer - so check back often. If we can get our staff to come in and sit in front of the computer instead of working on the rig, we'll see a lot of new reports in the months ahead. But, I'm sorry, this month's column is short because the Jeep needs some work and I need to check out my gear too… and those mountains are right outside my window and my mind keeps wandering to them.

See you on the trail.
