I'd like to show you my other
money pit, a 1985 Bayliner Capri 1600 16' runabout with a 85hp Chrysler Force outboard. When I'm not camping and 4wheeling, I like to go boating. I live 15 minutes away from the Ohio river, and 30 minutes from a big lake. And there are a bunch of other lakes a little further away. Boating is pretty popular in this area.
I bought the boat 3 years ago. Ran it for 2 seasons. Long story short, I found the deck was rotten and the transom as well. So I took on the project of re-doing the deck and transom, on the cheap. This boat is really just a starter boat, not worth more than a grand or so. I wasn't going to spend TOO much time and money on it. But I do want it to be safe for my family.
Here she is the first season out
The soft spot I was feeling in the bow after digging at it a bit
Tore the deck up
Pulled the motor
Transom looked good at the top, but was mushy rotten at the bottom
Here is the hole I previously patched in transom, ground down(happened when motor fell during tow, probably what caused leak)
Here's the pump I'm going to use for a bilge pump
I'm currently installing the wood in the transom. Almost done, just have to fiberglass it in.
Next is painting the gas tank area. Then carpeting. Then reinstall the seats and clean them really good. Then install the motor, and GO BOATING!
In the near future I will install a temp gauge and tachometer. Currently it only has a speedometer.
