I bet my OE eng. ground is insufficient now that the subject is up.. my engine has always had a slower turn than I thought it should be, but it never fails to start after the 2-3 turn. I think your one of the few pioneers to do that and won't find much here on the topic, probably more info in the mazda forums of the like.. seen some fe3 swap talk over there in my search for performance up's on the kia.

I do understand that the mazda forums use the Fe3 engine alot,Unfortunatly they are all using Jspec versions with a distributor. Or they are using a megasquirt stand alone setup.
The guys over at the kia forums never seen to want to help out. So i come to you guys because so far you have all helped me on whatever kia related questions i have. So i am hoping one of you that have a good deal of knowledge on this vehicle will be able to help me fogure out my issues.

Can you get any codes read (OBDII reader)? This would be EXTREMELY useful. Two error that could give this fault would be faulty camshaft and crankshaft sensors/wiring.
Could you try swapping the ECU from your Mazda into the Kia? This should give you an idea if the ECU is OK.
They should have the same plug I think... (not sure as we didn't get any earlier than 97 models over this side of the puddle)

Ya, there seems to be more irregulars coming to the site on a wim to find a fix to their big problem rather than regulars that have the answer to them. I must admit I should be on that site more helping others where I can. Most of us go to the forum to find answers more than give 'em. So no fuel, no spark. Generally, the computer won't provide fuel spark if it doesn't know the engine is cranking. IE: Crank Position Sensor and/or Cam Position Sensor. Really need a 'Scan Tool' Not an ABDII scanner, but a SCAN TOOL. these will allow you see live data of your sensors. Nice when diagnosing things like this. Say this.. you scroll down to your Cam Pos Sensor and watch it's operation while you crank the motor. if no counts are made, then check connections, 5V reference supply voltage. Most sensor supply voltages are 5V.. On a side note, I find it interesting that supply voltages for most engine sensors are 5V.. same as a USB power source.. you could per say, use this for a USB charger maybe if tapped into an unused line in theory. Food for thought

Crank and camshaft sensors will throw codes, don't really need to see them to tell.
Keep it simple.........

I have the ez scan 6000 wich does scanning also. The bad part is if you buy it from them it's like 600 dollars, i got mine on ebay for 300. The other bad part is, i left the obdII cable in the kia, and the reader end was on the floor board when i went in some deep water. Needless to say, i need a 50 dollar cable. But like previous post states, get a cheap code reader to read codes to get a start.

Well it runs!!
I had the timing 180 out and the ignition was dropping out during cranking so I had to swap the wire. Fires right up, runs clean. (Besides the plugs being fouled)
So thank you for all the help. Now its the fun job of making all the guages read correctly and get it on the road.
