Hey, guys! I'm new to the site, but thought I'd share recently acquired. I've owned a 97 Sportage for about 8 months now. well, for the last few months I've been running around the desert with blown hubs (a lack of 4wd is liveable here in the summer).Well, with Winter right around the corner I figured I ought to fix those damn hubs.

Got to lookin around at the Warn Manuals, but the price is kinda steep in my economic state. Did a little research and found all the Vehicles that used manual hubs with sililar mounting styles, spline counts, and diameters. After getting an idea of what would be close and what to look for I took a trip to the local wrecking yard to try a few out.

First were factory Aisin hubs off an early Mazda B2600. Found out that if you use the wheel bearing hardware off the Mazda, the hubs themselves, and the six hub bolts per side they bolt right on! One modification does have to be done though... There is two dowel-pins on the mating surface on the back of them. These can either be cut off, ground flush, or a machine shop can pull them out.

They've been on two weeks now and not a single issue!

Hubs-$18/pair with all hardware
Cutting wheel and grinder-$borrowed 'em
Grease to repack bearing while I had it apart anyway-$8/tub

Total-$26

Try it out.

Pictures and write-up on the way...

Great info, I have heard something about that before, it's nice to know someone tried them.

Thanks, Dennis

I think I read a post about doing this but did not mention changing the front bearing.
What is different that requires the need to change the bearing?

You're looking for an older (87-89?) non-injected B2600. Not the newer fuel-injected I model. The earlier trucks had manual hubs, while the later models had drive flanges and an vacuum controlled CAD. Anybody still having problems with breaking hubs could always swap on those later drive flanges...

Ya gotta remember though, these are Aisin hubs. Known by the Toyota guys to be insanely strong, these hubs are bomb-proof when compared even to the Warns.

These guys have a billet steel body, cast aluminum cap, and are huge compared to the Warns tiny cast aluminum body. I doubt this little 2.0 will ever break another hub. Something else would let go first...

Sorry man, didn't read this...

You need the wheel bearing hardware because the key that fits in the keyway in the spindle to keep the wheel bearing nut from backing off is built into the lock rings that engage the automatic crap...

I don't know about going from other manual hubs to these. I swapped it because it's cheap and fits like factory. Grabbed the parts with the hubs and gave it a try...

The Mazda wheel bearing hardware is also extremely easy to work on, only requiring an 8mm 1/4" drive socket and ratchet (to remove the lockring), and a spanner to adjust the wheel bearing preload. Less tools to carry in the brush is nice too.

Hope to see the pictures soon.
Pins appear to be dowel pins that should come out with vise grips but maybe not.
Where did you get them so cheap?
car-part.com would be $50+ shipping is the best I've seen.
Thanks for the update.
