Seriously bad move.
The last thing we want to do is "cross pollinate" ideas for them. True.

How bout one for homebrew mongrels that don't have a "real" make or model? Betting a few people have some weird creations they'd like to show off.

We do have a General 4x4 and Tools n Fab sections here already.
As far as a firearms section, we do like 'em around here, and they come up from time to time, but not a lot. Personally, I'm not real keen on having the anti-gun nazis lurking around here, nevermind big brother. Frank and Jim spoke a bit about smithing, which is something a lot of us gunowners here do NOT do; that's what gun forums are for.

Today, I think I got some insight into why I enjoy 4x4wire. In this morning's snowstorm, I was one of only two people who showed up at work.... and I was there at my usual time, well before we opened. I saw not only the benefit of having a reliable, capable vehicle, but the experience to drive it confidently and the desire to get a job done at work.
Most here are at least trying to be a little self-sufficient and/or self-reliant when it comes to DIY projects. Yes, most of them are auto-mechanical related, but not all. I suspect the qualities of self-reliance, accountability and responsibility are becoming somewhat a thing of the past.
I don't care if we have a gun forum or not - there are plenty of those forums around with a lot more knowledge and experience than is contained here. If I wanted to know how to resolve a rifle issue, I could certainly find better places to ask questions. However; the company might not be as congenial..... or might not share other similar values. Sometimes, a chat with buddies (internet or otherwise) is preferable to a bunch of knowledgeable jerks...... and sometimes it might be a chat that would interest someone in something he wouldn't normally get involved with and result in a broadening of horizons.
Internet forums are a little like life. When I was a young fella, I ran from bar to bar looking for the pretty girls. Later, I learned to conserve energy, pick a good spot and wait for them to pass by.

Some of the most interesting posts in the forums have been off topic. Too much focus narrows the mind too much. And narrer minded is like narrer asted, too tipsy fer comfort.

I like the idea of a freebie thread, maybe a "racing/competition" thread too? :-D
