I purchased the entire top end kit including new head from engblr. Head was built to match my gears, tire size and the type of driving, on and off road concidered. I'm completely satisfied with the work. All the lower end stuff was done locally and price was competitve. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

You will be so happy, did you get a new cam also?
I used a rebuilt head with can and headers and it made a big difference. I later went with the after market head from engblr and that made a huge difference.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi i'm back online after 2 months working in the bush. So yes, i picked up the rebuilt 22re from langley for $1200 but there is one thing that I need to confirm.
The mechanic (rebuilder) says that new head bolts are not needed. But I've heard conflicting info b/c of the stretch to yield design of the head bolts.
So before i drop it in my truck, can I simply unbolts the current bolts & put in new ones, w/o screwing up the headgasket & head/block placement?
Should I do remove & tighten (but not torque to spec.) one bolt at a time to avoid change in headgasket compression pressure?
If I do need to take the timing cover off, should I also change the plastic guide out & put in a metal one instead?

All fixed! ![[Linked Image]](http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l37/allochris/th_DSCF6301.jpg) Just need to break-in 500km now + hot valve adjustment. It idles dead-on upon initial startup. Question: -Is the valve cover gasket re-useable? Silicon needed? -What's the valve clearance setting at hot?

nice job there brutha ..
hot I generally adjust to 8 and 12(some use 7 and 11 , but who really has those feelers) .. depending on if the rockers and adjust screws and valve tip grind are new or not ? may need adjusting again if new .
valve cover gaskets are reusable , just be sure they are clean and debris free , and be sure to use a little "dab" of silicone on the 1/2 moon /head intersections ..

What an amazing adventure! Good job with all the pictures. What kind of work were you doing? And did it involve that helicopter I saw in the pictures? -- Matt
