I have been watching the news reports about the Tuscalusa area.
Wow!! What devastation!!
I have been through some of the worst fires in southern California history and they have produced some graphic scenes of devastation. The path of a fire leaves some things untouched; but, the path of a tornado is showing complete destruction.
My prayers go out to those affected...

Most of the roads are clear. A great deal of the area is still restricted, including the boat ramps. Some dog teams arrived today. We'll have dog teams out tomorrow morning.

Can y'all use a hand? I'm back in town.
Bama folks are tough. We've been dodging twisters often and for a damn long time. I had a heck of a time getting thru western Birmingham area, jillions of bucket trucks and dump trucks pulling dump trailers full of tree and other debris. My uncle's house had a gable end pull completely off, severing the hurricane straps that tie roof to wall framing, look like H2.5's, which are supposed to be good for hurricane force winds in preventing roof lift. My uncle sat on the porch and watched it. Says he's seen bigger, and closer. One tough old bird, a Guadalcanal vet, 2nd Marine Raiders. Says if God wanted him, he already missed all the really good chances.

Areas to the East and West got hammered by storms that snuck around the mountains.
The ones that tried a full frontal on my area got broken up and KTFO by the mountains.

Our neighborhood was just barely missed. Saw one funnel cloud go over my house that touched down 20 miled down the road in Glade Springs, VA and was an EF3. Was at work most of night dodging other funnel clouds and taking shelter when the tornado sirens went off. What a night to be in transportation and out on the road. I am VERY thankfull it is over and done with. Give me a Blizzard and -40 below any day over this garbage. 15 dead total in our counties here. Most were in mobile homes and decided to be stubborn and "ride it out".

Damn, good to hear from you -- You know Doug (Isuzu) neighbor's weren't so lucky... he had one sweep through the neighborhood 100 yards from his house up that way in Johnson City. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
