Porting and polishing my new head. Also thought I'd try Polishing the exerior of the intake manifold. I have a sandwheel that I'm trying to wear down so that it's small enough to fit into the ports so I needed to wear it down anyway. Fun and messy stuff.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
looking good! would like to know how well this improves flow and therefore power. How long did it take you to get it to that point?

With the head off already degreased and valves and valve seals removed.. JUST working on porting/polishing the head, I'd guess 2 hrs.. give or take. I might of spent 3 hours, but it's so fun I wasn't keeping track of time. spend a little time on it one day and broke a bit and bought more and worked on it again another day. I'm working with a dremel that has one speed: 30,000rpm. It's too fast so I have to be careful.. then there's the smaller dremel that runs variable up to about the same speed but works with only smaller dremel pieces. I wish I could tell you guys the difference in N/A to port and polish N/A but I'm shooting for turbocharging this. I mainly just ported the exhaust side and i'll polish both the intake and exhaust sides. Honestly, this is my first attempt and with no help/experience regarding port/polish. lol. Think I got it figured out though. I also want to polish the intake runners... The casting is rough inside of them typically. I gotta not waste time on this rebuild. My motor either has a rod knock or an exhaust leak.. Rod Knock means the hourglass has been turned over. Exhaust leak means nothing if it's small. so tired.. gnight

Ok! So, I spent alot more time P&Ping the head but it was fun. I took the head to a Machine Shop and had the head pressure checked for cracks and milled. I still have to lap the valves but I need the valve lapping compound first. Then I can start assembling the head since I have the gasket set now. I don't know why but before I ordered the cheapo set which was on back order, so being i had the money I stepped it up to Felpro and Timken. Kit was like $130. Mind you these prices are mechanic's discount. I still gotta take the crank out of the block and clean up the clock to have that bored. There wasn't any lip on the tops of the cylinders exept for one :P' so simply honing won't suffice. Here's a pic the FE3N stock pistons. I still can't find cheap MR2 3SGTE pistons.. Think I'll just get good rings and move on, lol. [Linked Image]
