so after wheeling an ifs rig for 10+ years, i bought an already built 91 solid axle rig. its got all the good stuff, but it sits REALLY tall. 27"+ to the bottom of the frame under the door on 35s + a 2" bl. the truck was originally built around the bl because it has a 3.4 swapped in. so the sliders, a really nice custom front winch bumper, and mostly flat belly would all have to be re-done to get rid of the bl. it also has 4 or 5" lift springs.
my plan is to daily drive this truck and wheel it in AZ this winter. my question for everyone is, how tippy is this thing gonna be? worse than my ifs truck? that had 35s on a one inch bl with bj spacers. the body is REALLY nice on this truck and im not going to be running trails that are going to smash the hell out of it, but i do want to have some challenge. how much will it help to take some leaves out of the springs?
thanks for any thoughts. let me know if more info would be helpful.

I'd start out by putting in swaybars, front and back.

If that front end has blocks anywhere, those have got to go. Post a few pics of the suspension so we can see just what was set under there.
I saw a really jacked DodGe the other day with a front end hack-job. Didn't have the camera with me. That thing looked like a rollover waiting for a place to happen.

its not that it is poorly put together, its got a marlin 4" sas and it was done well. its just that i read all of these threads about how low everyone is building their trucks these days and it makes me concerned. i have never driven a solid axle truck, so i dont know what to expect. its quite a bit taller than my ifs truck and i dont want to tip the new one over

there arent any blocks or stuff like that. marlin 4" front springs, i think trail gear 5" rear springs (there are about 7 leaves in the rear and 5 or 6 in the front, so some extra may have been added). so i can pull some leaves.
just really looking for some people who have had ifs trucks and then gone to a solid axle rig to give me some reassurance that even though it sits taller, its going to be more stable off road.....
edit, dont know whats wrong with the pics....maybe u cant link to FB????

Try photobucket or imageshack. You can also load them here via the 4x4wire portal.

NICE i was looking at that one alittle while ago. Honestly if you drive like it's a big lifted truck, you shouldnt have a problem, if you drive it like it's a supra.... Just make sure to be careful going around corners and bumping curbs at speed, and curvy roads you are not used to. I'd still put in sway bars with quick disco's if you are going to DD...

Im not so worried about it on the road as I am when I get out wheeling. It was a long drive to get the truck, but built rigs dont show up here on the east coast very often. At least not in really nice shape.
I might check into those anti-rock swaybars, but I think they are more for linked trucks....

Got bump-stops? I would measure ground to frame, front and rear. Then, remove 1 spring per pack. Not the lowest (shortest) spring in the pack, but the one just above that. Then measure again and make sure she is still level. Or, wheel it as it is, and take it to the edge, or, just before your heart stops with that gasp of air. She'll probably flex just fine, better that you think. Get that sweet rig here to Az, we'll post some trail run action shots for these folks. We'll run Mud Springs...
