I created a Facebook Sportage Group. Try it out. #1052622 10/16/12 07:12 AM

Thought Id try this but i'm unsure if i like the idea.

Facebook Sportage group I made

Here you can more fluently add pics, vids, and socialize with others about the Sportage and similar SUVS (tracker, sorento, etc). I made it so if it needs tweaking lemme know. If I should just burn it to the ground, lemme know.. lol
My opinion is that it could possibly be bad news for this site, but this site is so out dated! I'm not against this site, but I thought I'd try this and see what everyone thinks.. A friend has a club started on FB and it's got so much more communication and media sharing going on.. but, if most everyone's against this idea then I may just close it but I really think it's a healthy change though. -Samuel Houston

Social media has benefits and drawbacks. The biggest drawback is content is not search engine indexed.

All content posted to 4x4Wire is fully available and indexed by search engines.

I do have available a Joomla CMS portal that offers a lot of opportunity beyond the forums. Just need someone to step forward to work with it and build what you want.

I have closely reviewed the pros and cons of video and picture sharing. They are bandwidth and server intensive. Besides, YouTube and others like Flickr handle storage and bandwidth in an efficient manner.

You want to expand the Kia section? There are options...

I think the active users need to get more active! LOL...

If there were to be a change to the kia section, I'd prolly add a section dedicated to photo heavy posts, like a "Tips and Trips" section... IDK, just an option.

In regards to videos, just load it to youtube and post a link, many forums have the users do that anyway...

I still believe the forums here have great purpose. Helping others and getting help and the search index is a plus! I'm looking at this FB thing as more of a show off and share aspect. People are joining that don't even own sportages. They're just FB friends of the members. The word speads through their friends so on and so fourth. Over the years, I have always referred people to this site and to upyourkia.com as the common question is how did I lift it. I post youtube videos and refer people through there too. I will be referring Sportage owners to this site through the FB group I made even. I will also discourage q&a stuff on my group as the site isn't built for it like it is here. Same problems would be asked about (hubs, lift how-to's, weak pwr windows, etc) over and over again. Anyway, I'm no expert at web design. I didn't create anything really. I just opened a group. FB takes care of the rest. The Israel boys have an FB group too called KIA AREA but it's not in english, lol. There's a few members there that have migrated over to my group and I've joined their group though it's all in another language. Fortunately, google chrome translates it to english words, but it's not always put together in a way that makes sense. I've learned that most all of them can speak english. So if I reply, they understand it. It's nice to bridge the gap of language and collaborate with them! They seem to have more interest in the Sportage than people in the USA. So naturally there's more aftermarket and custom support. Like diff lowering and such. My group is a social place, but with it I hope to be another channel to bring more Sportage Enthusiasts together and fwd them here for help and for their sharing of thoughts

Unfortunately, the forum software is at the end of its upgrade cycle. I have been looking at the newer version which allows more options and have begun planning for an upgrade. It is a complex upgrade and I am bringing other portions up to date prior to the big step.

The Galleries section of the portal is now updated and allows registered users to post pictures.

Articles now have the ability to leave comments or repost to other social media sites.

And, if you want to contribute a tech article, you have the ability. Again, you must be registered to the portal and that is different than the forums. Yes, I am working to get one login.

Body Damage is Cool
While upgrading, maybe you should get a moderator that is active on the site.
Just a suggestion...
