It's Fixed,,,for now. Eliminated it and it's water supply.
I took the Idle Air Control Valve off and cut a gasket that blocks the IACV passage into the upper T.B.
.
I took alot of pictures of the guts and passages of all the T.B. and IACV, and ICS.
I'd like to post those picture into it's owe thread to help others with what seems to be a common problem with these aging rigs.
(I gotta yet figure out how to post them here, petiful).
.
Getting those phillips screws out was a real PITA , I had to end up propane heating them, p-blaster, and micro impacting.
I'll do a complete disassemble(with pics) of it and make a more permanant version of this "eliminator kit". Other than the freeze out plug , the interior parts are threaded into the aluminum body. Maybe the is a way to rebuild.

KrzyDave, I am in the manual, and Do not see anything named the " Idle Air Control Valve" Following along on your onversation it sounds like you are referring to the Idle Speed Control Servo, from pages 14-87 and 14-88 of the manual. I'm eaiting breakfast and reading this in the book and on here, not atually looking at the truck. Is that the part your working with? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I'm hoping you are talking about the part numbered "2" here, which the manual calls the "Idle speed control servo assy"

No the part he is talking about is in the bottom of 5 on your diagram, and it's almost not mentioned in the fsm. It is a pure thermostatic air valve to raise idle speed after a cold start for only a few seconds, at most about 2 minutes when it's really cold.

The ISC is a whole 'nother animal, #2 as you inquired, with it's own set of problems. The old brown body units were known as frequent fails. If you used a throttle body cleaner, it ate the insulation off the windings of the stepper motor and shorted it out, which could fry the ecu in some cases. This is why the fsm directs you to plug the air passage before using such cleaners. There is a revised replacement with a black body that is much more robust and longer lived.

Dave, I get to say, "Tojaso, tojaso... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />".

I wonder if you couldn't just fill the fidle passage with epoxy and call it done. I don't think that the function is all that necessary except for cold start emissions anyway, and since the part is as far as I've been able to determine, not available at all except as a whole throttle body, which is damn expensive as you found out, ditch it. Now if we could just find just the little thermostat and figure out how to install it...

Eddy , I wish I could post a picture.
If you remove the freeze out plug,,,the next part in is a plugg that is threaded in and has 2 holes for a micro spanner wrench. That part also has an orafice for another plastic pintle. There's a spring to push the pintle out of orafice when cold and heavy spring inside the pintle that pushes it into the orafice when hot. The "wax tank" is inside the casting where the h2o curculates round it.
I suspect this tank corodes and/or is damaged by raditor flush chemicals,,, it cracks and the wax washs away.
I'd like to use dremel and widdle the aluminum casting if I can find junk T.B. I cn't help but think that if the wax tank is theaded in also,,,that somehow this thing is rebuildable. I had to just "half do "this project in case I broke the casting trying to get the freeze plug removed. I don't live in an good place to get stranded without a vehicle.
On morning startup at 45o the ICS takes it from 1,100 rpm down to nice 700rpm warm.
Where I live now I probably don't need this gizzmo.
At this point, I'm thinking of removing freezeout plug,,then taping and instlling brass plug with threadlock into orafice - no gsket or epoxy to ever get sucked into engine that way.
And my knuckles are sure banged up running that little hose between head and firewall.

Mine had an intermittent light. Yesterday I took it on a poker run, went about 60 miles. It was related to the the position of the throttle. I could turn it off by movement of the throttle. BTW KrazyDav, no pics ever came thru. After 2 of the 2.6 vehicles, I'm really digging this 3.0 V-6.

It's possible that the cold start enrichment is too much gas for what the isc will let thru, and needs the fidle valve air to lean it out enough to not trigger the ohtwo light. If so, warmer weather may provide a warm weather cure. Or you might try the spark plug spacer trick under the ohtwo sensor that they use for the rear sensor on two sensor obd2 cars.

Mud, you seem to have a dead spot in the tps rheostat. Hook an ohmeter up to it and see if you can see the dead spot as you move the throttle.
