Hi everyone,

After a long time I am finally having my suspension fitted.

Installed are:

Extended 50mm forks
40 mm Dobinsons Springs front
New front struts
Everett's sway bar link extenders
35 mm Dobinsons Springs off a jeep TJ
Rav 4 OME shocks
Adjustable pan had rod
Adjustable diff locater (off the front of a live axle hilux)

To be fitted later next week

New ball joints tie rods upper arms etc
Diff drop kit.

seen it today and man is it high. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

No longer need to bend down to get into the car.

The Sporty looks hilarious with the standard tyres and rims fitted at the moment. The 35 mm lift TJ springs were the perfect height as the Sporty is dead level front to rear with the 90 mm lift in the front. I will take some measurements from rim to wheel arch to let you all know the height gained. does any one know the stock height? Forgot to take the it before the suspension was put in.

Took it for a quick drive around the in laws back yard and flexed her up. Pan hard is an issue hitting the shock and defiantly need different rims for offset as they had rubbed on the shock as well. I will get photos and post them up.

Have purchased a set of alloy rims off a Grand Vitara XL7 http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=37252. to give me some more offset to stop the rear tyre rubbing on the shock and allow for the wider fitment of tyres. 16x7 is the size of the alloy rims with a + 5 offset. Not sure on which size tyre to go,235 x 85 (31.7 x9.5 wide) or 265 x 75 (31.6x 10.4 wide). Hopefully they will be here later in the week as well. They are coming with tyres already fitted 235 60 so at least
I will see how the width looks when they arrive.

looks like I will need to look at the relocation of rear shocks.

will post up photos later in the week with the diff drop fitted.

Cheers, Chris <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Chris,
Sounds Awesome.

What you need is not offset but BACKSPACING.
Stock 1996 alloy wheels have 5+ inches of backspacing, which can cause rubbing on the shock and shock mount.
I'm running 32" tires on 16"x 8 rims that have 4" of backspacing and they don't even come close to rubbing.

Need some pictures of your rig!!

Hi Chris,

it is a adjustable torque rod off a the front axle of a Toyota live axle hilux.

it replaces the rear diff locater arm. Yours been a big bum may have two. My model Sporty has one.

it is used to adjust the pinion angle to get rid of vibration. n the iPad so don't have a picture to attach

cheers, Chris

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

what is it with salesmen when you say you. Want all joints including lower balljoints and upper suspension arms arms and they don't order them. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />t

So have ordered the lower ball joints and hopefully will have them Friday at the stealers.

I got the price of the upper arms and quickly decided to get them off the net
. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Here's hoping they fit as I have ordered them from the US <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />.. I can get both arms landed in Aus for cheaper than the price of one here in Australia. $138.90 for the pair including shipping opposed to $270 ea.
Does any one see any issues with the upper arms with the left hand and right hand drive side of things? From what can see they look identical and shouldn't change. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

The good part is my new idler arm, tie rods etc where at the Kia Stealers so
I Was able topick them up today.

My wheels arrived yesterday and picked them up today from the shipping company. ?haven't had a chance to unwrap them as yet.

Will post pics when I do. I reckon the XL7 Grand Vitara Alloys will look cool on the Sporty.

Cheers, Chris

Picked up the Sporty today from my brother in law's place. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Still needs to have a full alignment, wheel balance etc; to bring everything back into spec as the whole front end was pulled apart fitting up new parts as part of maintanence.

1 3/8 Body lift still has not been fitted yet so not at full height. Current lift is aprox 90 mm but look higher. I forgot to take measurements before fitting up the suspension.

IT feels a little rolly at the moment which hopefully will improve with alignment. Still need to get the bottom rear shocks fitted properly ( bottom shock mount) and will be going to Peddars in Darwin to get them to fix that up and do the alignment (recomended through brother inlaw.)

Fitted the new GV vitara rims as well which makes the Sporty look a lot better. Tyres came with the wheels and are currently 235/60 R16. She looked hilarious with the lift and the standard tyres. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Any way to the photos <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Rubbage right rear when I flexed up the sporty on a mound with the standard tyres and rims fitted. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" /> Morale of the story if you are lifting your Sporty you need aftermarket rims fitted. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

The diff drop has definately worked on the CV angles bringing them back to an aceptable angle. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> I am a bit worried about the front diff drop moving when the front hits something hard and will talk to Runt313 about his setup. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Still not fully decided on tyre size yet but in contention are 265/75 R16 or 235/5 R16 at the moment.

Hope you all enjoy. I think the GV Rims look great. Just need to get rid of the S <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Having tried 205R 16 (retreated) on suzyki steel rims <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> and I consider it top marginal.

Even in the slitest uhill I forget the 5th gear, thow on the other hand 4th is something like..... 4,1/2 that is not bad....

gearing shouldn't be an issue as I have the 5.38 ring and pin ions to go in along with front diff lock <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Ah!!! Now I see why the diff-drop kit you used didn't make sense to me. The front axle housing's end-cap hanger is different on your Aussie model. Here's what they shipped on the U.S. version...
