ARRL Field Day is next weekend, June 22-23, 2013. If you have an interest in Amateur Radio, or even if you have no idea what it's all about, I encourage you visit a Field Day location near you. The airwaves will be hopping!

This is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June of each year, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote locations.

To locate a Field Day near you:
http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator

Official Objective:
To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.

No experience or license required!
Nearly all Field Day operations will have a special "GOTA" station specifically set up for coaching newbies. GOTA = Get On The Air. And you do not need to have an amateur radio license to use this station as you'll be accompanied by a control operator.

More info:

Cheers (&73),

There is one set for north San Diego county that will feature emergency operations and armature radio operator participation on 2 meter band.
