and he cried... #1066027 11/10/13 08:41 AM

For eight Saturdays, a swarm of about 8 3 year olds met on the soccer field. You could watch them as they suddenly started to get the idea, and instead of the coach having to pick them up and put them in place, they started to get the idea and play like a team. My grandson, the youngest and smallest of the bunch turned 3 the day before signups. He seemed to get the idea first, and turned into a scoring machine. At this age, it's like watching a school of fish swirling around the ball. Out of the crowd he would come dribbling the ball like he was born to it, aimed like a homing missile at the goal, too fast to be caught, too agile to be blocked, and into the goal the ball would go. He would score ten to fifteen goals per game, but he never passed the ball. "I don't share in soccer" he says.

The season ended this week, and he cried...

Great story...

I have been that route with a couple of kids. It is fun watching them begin together the idea and start working as a team.

Well, tee ball is coming in the spring, and I've been teaching him to swing the bat, and he's pretty good, even if he's mine. He also throw a good spiral, hitting me in where the numbers used to be, but I advise against football, and his parents so far agree. Too many crazy coaches out there. I love the game, and played the game, and my knees were never the same, and the spiral fracture of my ankle cost me a full second in the forty and an ankle that will still set off metal detectors every time. I get real tired of taking off my socks and shoes and showing off the old scars before the boarding pass nazis will let me pass.

Tee ball might be a good way to get him into the team concept, since there can't be any results until that ball is passed along. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Football = $$$ Love the game myself, then there's reality!
