Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey guys it has been way to long since I've posted anything, however I have been stopping buy once in a while to see whats going on. Well my issue this time is my 86 4runner 22rec 5 speed manual, I lock the hubs in engage the transfer case yet no light on dash and no drive to the front axles. Stopped on ice last night and spun the tires while watching the front, no-go. Never had a problem with it until now. Come to think I had a friend replace the clutch back in the summer. Any ideas? they sure will be appreciated. Thanks.

Best to shift into 4H, pull the shifter and look at the shift rails, should be like below: ![[Linked Image]](http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/topshifter/shifterview.jpg) If not, shove both forward until the slots line up and then put the shifter into those lined up slots.

yep as 4Crawler suggested . the "no light" you suggested is the key diognossis to the problem

Glad to hear things are going well at the shop. Tonight after work I turned the heater on high, (temp. 21F and beginning to snow) and began to pull the console and shifter out. Wouldn't you know the sleeves weren't lined up as you guys said. So I slid them in line and put the handle back on and tried it out. The light still doesn't come on, old light I guess, but when engaged I could see the forward shaft rotating. Thanks again.

No. The front axle is turning, but the front wheels aren't engaging. So I checked the hubs. The right side seemed really difficult to engage and disengage. Maybe time to clean them up as well.

Thanks Cory. As soon as the weather clears up a bit I'll do just that. While waiting I took the time and watched a few videos. Seems straight foward enough.
