A bit off topic but relevant to those of us who use the PDF copies of the FSM. Plus I know some of you have knowledge of the print/ocr industry solutions.
I'd like to take all of our archived PDF FSM's and make each of them indexed so you can search for specific terms/words when you want to find say the section that describes the IAC/ISC for example. This way it can help make finding what we're looking for much easier.
I'm not sure it's possible but I would imagine it is. Do any of you know how?
I've seen lots of OCR software available. The ones I looked at all seem to convert it to a word document first but that would probably mean having to move the images over, align each on each page, then it could create the index. I'm sure none of us are interested in typefacing (i.e. aligning the images for the entire fsm collection) so this method is not an ideal option.
Any idea's or suggestions?

No I don't but that would definitely work! Anyone have a copy they no longer need? I could always temporarily download a fully functional trial on adobe.com I guess also.

Do you mean indexed in terms of searching? Or navigable with the contents/bookmarks on the left? Either way takes PDF "full" software. I have a copy, but little time, I still haven't added any new PDFs for a long time now as I still need to rebuild a PC for uploading. Redoing the PDFs comes after that...

Indexed for searching. I know full acrobat does it but is obviously $$$$$. Any lower cost alternatives available? For example I've been using Primo PDF to reprint the main PDF into the separate chapters. I've done this for the entire 96SR FSM, but I'd like to ocr/index it to make it even easier to search for things.

I've used it to OCR scans of D&D manuals.
