Getting the Wheeling Fever
One of my customers is complaining that his engine intermittently starts reeving up to almost redline with knowbody in the truck! What the hell causes that? Has anybody ever had a turbo blow an oil seal on a d55/d56 and have this problem? I understand a diesel can run on it's own crankcase oil. The motor has less than 10 k on it. New sleeves , rings, pistons etc. It has a new 4d56 head from ebay which I am really pissed about. I got it from the UK and first the dowel pin is misaligned by about .020 and the seller refused to help saying I was full of crap basically. Than the rocker shaft broke!

Mike

I bought a 4D56 head from UK as well, no issues with dowel placement but it also broke a rocker shaft (due to not being properly torqued) luckily I had an original rocker shaft to replace it otherwise I would have been hating the UK as well.

I've had one of those turbos apart more than once. The "seals" are little piston rings, and rather difficult to blow. You can force oil into the compressor side if the oil return is clogged or kinked. In that case you should have a very oily compressor interior and an oily outlet tube. The only other thing I can think of is a valve stem leak or leak in the injector pump or leak past the rings, but the first and last of these wouldn't seem to leak enough oil for that kind of engine speed, and I also bet you'd see preignition with any of these leaks.

My most likely is the pump and metering unit...

Mike the problem is the injection pump. It needs a rebuild. They can rev when they get old.

Roll Me Over
Mine did that after sitting for awhile. I ran a bottle of diesel purge through the engine and it quieted right down. (4D55T)
