Like a 2004 X3? This would be my wifes mall crawler. She does not want car- Actually she needs the size of SUV for her art/spinning stuff. Just curious. Since she has bee driving a montero so much she is used to the SUV feel now LOL.

Have no opinion of BMW cars, but most BMW drivers I observe in traffic have no care or concern for others on the road.

One of my coworkers had a little white X3 with a roof top tent.

Sorry not more useful, but why not a newer Montero?

I'm a b level tech and worked for a few years at a repair shop known for euro cars with an emphasis on Audi.

Also, I have a secret appreciation for bmw, my dad had a 7.

Case by case on model and engine, bmw took a turn right after 2000ish 2004 ish.

Like the x3 only comes in x drive. BMW transfer cases are fragile, very fragile. The n52 motors, unlike their amazing previous gen strait 6, suck. Electric water pump for start, that seams to fail in 50k miles. The head bolts literally snap by themselves. With all the timing work and all, its a $5k from an indie shop and more at a dealer.

Shoot for a pre 2000ish 3 or 5 wagon in strait six flavor. Excellent reliable cars. Been eying some fives myself lately.

88 Montero, StarQuest turbo, Kormex 5speed +tuff-pan w/phoenix f. stage2 clutch, 4in lift+33' tires, 4.875 lsd, short-throw shifter, Aisin hubs, SR big brakes, gen2 uca's, elantra alt, and so much more... 16g turbo w/hardpipes + 4.90 locking disk-brake axle soon (maybe lsd or aussie front??)
