When filling gas tank, gas spits back out after a few seconds #1074896 10/31/14 01:03 AM

It's been awhile from the last time I was here. Has anyone had this problem filling the gas tank ? that the gas spits back out ? the only way I can fill the tank is, do it as slow as possible which take a long time to fill.

Could be the vent line or the canister being restricted. That would create back-pressure in tank that could blow fuel at the nozzle due to "burping". What year is your Sporty? The post-1997 models have the canister in the rear of the vehicle (not sure which year that change started). And I've heard a few problems with them clogging with dirt/mud over time. That's all I can think of, at the moment...

Edit: Just saw your sig block... 2001 sporty... check the canister (at the base, if I recall correctly). <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Hi John!

It might be the anti spill valve in the filler hose just before the hose enters the tank might be stuck shut.

Just guessing!!!

My tank does not have the 3 tubes on the left side of the tank from the filler tube, plus there is no breather tube coming back up the filler tube as shown on any replacement photo. There is no separator assy that I can see, as it would be connected to two of the missing tubes just left of the filler tube. I tried to remove the box near the rear of the sporty one bolt I could not get off, most likely the canistor is in there,it has 2 tubes coming out of it, one large one small, one looks like it comes from the tank the other goes to the engine compartment. This part is different, I will have to check it out more the is another plate or some type of assy forward of the fuel pump assy cover about 10 inchs to the front of the tank, I have not seen any tank that has this. Any ideas ?

I took a look at the tank I checked the number on the pump it is 0K07A1335Y, it is not the number Kia has listed for it,it does not show up on Kia, the number should be 0K01D135ZA. I wonder if that's why it does not have the extra tubes coming from the fuel tank, anyone have more ideas ?

When I get to doing a few things on the rear, I plan on taking of the rubber hose on the fuel tube to check the anti spill back valve, if the valve is bad other then the dealer where can I get one ? do I need the valve ? plus would like to replace the hose, it's a big price for a rubber hose about $25 at the auto store, anyone use something else ?
