Good ol' 4x4wire, I didn't even have a license to drive when i registered on this forum. I remember I had an expired learners permit and my junkyard '88 Montero, Lordtunks and I were roommates and he had an '88 Montero that was something like 13 numbers down the assembly line from mine.
I learned to drive in his Monty then I bought mine from the junkyard, knowing nothing about cars we slapped a cylinder head and carburetor he had laying around on it and drove that thing around like it was under warranty.
We then got PA_JERO for a roommate and turned him on to Mitsu 4x4's with a 1984 Mighty Max SPX turbo diesel. PA_JERO forced ClayTK into a Montero, we peer pressured StokerExplosion into a Montero. A lot of that goes around these parts, I think for every 1 OG Az Crewer there's been 5 brought on (It's like a cult in these parts). Then there was a rumor that JBFP was our illegitimate father but that's never been confirmed.
I think the last time i checked there were like 15 legit Az Crewers and maybe 25 fair weather Crewers. We have a few MIAs and a few others that are still IN but driving NON Monteros <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Sometimes I feel like I've known some of the AZ guys long enough to have been their father, but I've only casually met some of their mothers, so...

That is so freaking funny!!!

I have not been here that long, but still got my lot full of Mits's. The 2 87's and my 01. Both 87's are no longer registered. One is still running though. It leaks oil and tranny fluid. Smokes like a chimney till it gets warmed up. Needs Brakes overhauled they are leaking too. Needs complete front end overhaul rubbers gone in just about every joint and shocks all around. Starter is just about gone needs replacement. Exhaust leak as well and suspect cat converter needs to be ripped out.

Still looks good though. Wish I could put that 01 limited engine and 5 speed auto drive train in the 87. Sucker would be unstopable and get 20+ MPG.

Where is MudRaider(Frank)? Sold him a brand new weber carb for one of his collection few years ago. He could get anything running and loved his 88 two door. Saw a few pics of it buried in the mud. He would take that thing everywhere.

I don't know John. maybe you met a few of their mothers at a Poison concert in the late 80's-early 90's. You may want to check on that.

I've been Mia as well. Moved to NoVA a few years ago, married, expecting twins in February, motor messed up in the Montero. Waiting to get funds to put rebuilt back in. Been busy and def miss posting.

Ray Miles, last I checked sold his 1st gen and got a Rubi. Ran into him several years ago by accident when he visited friends in Charlotte. Would be great to hear from him.

Bretwalda (Phil) lives by me. He is outa the Montero game for now. I bought a bunch of parts off his '95 before it went to the scrapper. Frame was rusted holy. I think he pokes in here every once in a while...

I one of the guys that lives in AZ but never gets to hang with anyone or post like I used to. One day I will be able to go and hang with people. Right now I'm mentoring my son in the art of Montero/Raider repair. First Lesson, Engines.
