Guys the other day I was half kidding when I posted a picture of a cup holder on the utilitarian mod thread. I've been giving this more serious thought lately. I think I've settled on a particular cup holder from an early 2000ish Saab 9-3 and can't figure out where to put it. What do you guys think? Saab 9-3 retractable cup holder.![[Linked Image]](http://i.ytimg.com/vi/1IHgodwjTK4/hqdefault.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/me7UVDyKb5_ao9gd9Mrr-zQ.jpg)

Terrible design, spillage goes everywhere, in this case its over electronics, a nightmare.

Yeah you have a point about the spillage. But I wouldn't want to install it there. I would like to find another spot But I'm having a hard time with the limited amount of space in the dashboard.
Here is what I like about it, it's retractable. The flat portion that fits inside the dash takes up very little volume. It has a certain cool factor. And it's a practical addition.

Acid, That is a good idea about the ashtray. I want two cup holders. I'm taking my father on a 4x4 tour across the nation next summer. We will both want one each. As well as arm rests. But that is another topic.

I have saved a bunch of pics of stock cup holders for possible adaptation to the gen1. This saab one was one of them, but the one I think I want to pursue...some day.. is the one from the Volvo armrest. It is also retractable. I'll try and find the picture. example pic

I would build something simple in the center console area. Or something fastened to the driver's left on or about that flat spot next to the wing window. You could remove the center console completely and build a custom one to suit your needs. Now you've got me thinking of a double folding cup holder that fits right in the ash tray.

https://www.google.com/search?q=din+cup+...360&bih=559just put one of these in the empty DIN under the radio. I remember an 1987 Toyota tercel had something similar.

They are sweet! Put a set of the vertical ones where the front speaker areas are. assuming you don't have front speakers.
