Getting the Wheeling Fever
The passenger side inner axle knuckle is shot Im going to replace the whole half shaft assembly, this looks pretty easy but I thought I would try and get some tips from someone that knows do you have to remove control arms to get the drive axle out or can you just unbolt the inner part of the shaft and pop the outer axle knuckle out of the hub..... thanks for any feedback <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

The right side inner CV unbolts from the drive front axle assm. There is a retaining clip on the outside CV. I have successfully removed this piece by:

1. Disassemble the Auto Hub / Manual 4wd hub and remove.
2. Remove CV c-clip.
3. Remove 4 nuts & washers from the inner CV. The bolts will remain attached to the adapter.
4. Compress the CV shaft and pull down and out toward the front of the vehicle.

Two things more: 1. the vehicle must be lifted and stable for this work, 2. I have never re-installed a shaft by this method...as I generally only pull parts from the parts cars.

Should be a circlip behind the differential cover that comes off before the LH shaft can be removed. You can find diagrams and instruction in the factory service manual available at mitsubishilinks

BTW, do you have the FSM for the 87? It's on mitsubishilinks.com if you need it. It should have a pretty decent outline of the r&r process.

My mistake, you can remove them with force apparently and don't need to take the diff cover off.
