Mine is a full size montero. I believe that's for a sport

Not much difference across vehicle types. Some are vacuum operated while others are switch.

Not sure of your specific configuration, however, the light should be one when engaged and off when not engaged. The flashing indicated that you are not fully disengaged or you have a mechanical switch that is not functioning correct.

The vacuum operate motor in Dana 30 axles is notorious for not fully disengaging where the culprit is a loose vacuum hose. In other configurations there is a switch that can become misaligned.

The link was to give you some ideas of where to start looking....

No, it's a full size RS. I did that write-up (sorry for broken pic links). I'd check your vac lines first. A leaking or disconnected vac line will cause lights to blink. On the PS inner fender (at least on mine) there is a vac switch with hoses. Start there.

I recently did some under hood work and accidentally pulled one of the lines off that switch.

I traced out the vacuum lines today.they all looked good to me.theres a switch looking thing and maybe an actuator of some type on the front axle.also a canister there also.theres 4 vacuum hoses in that area all connected and look good.im thinking its a switch of some sort.the 4wd works as it should except for the flashing light

The canister is just a reserve container for the vacuum. You can also use a vacuum pump to test the system simulating engine vacuum. There are also electrical switches for(on) the front axle and on the transfer case. The ones on the transfer case need a hoist to get to - I have found.

The switches can be removed and tested. I'd start with the front axle switch. Remove the wire and clean the connection. If that doesn't work then remove the switch and do a continuity test. You'll see a plunger which is just an on/off function. Use an ohm meter and operate the plunger to see if you're getting continuity/no continuity. If the switches aren't used much the contacts get unresponsive.

I got my issue fixed. It was the free wheel clutch solenoids. $27 with shipping off Internet and 30 min to install.
