I have a 4m40 with tranny headed my way and had a couple of questions. I have been able to find lots of great info on old threads but have not been able to figure out the ECU.

My question is : Since the 4m40 has a mechanical fuel pump, does this motor need an ECU, and if it does, what functions doe the ECU perform?

I am also wondering about the air intake. I have seen swaps with this engine using the existing air intake from the 3.0, but is it recommended to switch to the diesel intake ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I got it from JDM Engine Corp in Texas. 4m40 turbo intercooler with tranny and transfer case. 2500

I will post some pics and details as I complete the swap on my 1990 LWB
