Hi guys,
My 1990 LWB developed an oil leak that is driving me insane. Long story short, I had the heads out for head gasket work, a stud holding the cam had to be fixed so the machine shop dipped the heads after I had installed the cam plugs so I am thinking that might have shorten their life and are leaking bad.

I have never replaced these plugs with the heads in place, any tricks or ideas?

Thanks,
Javy

I'm dealing with a similar situation. I just rebuilt one of my 3.0's and the rear cam plugs are slowly weeping oil. Going to pull the upper intake and valve covers to replace them. There seemsto be sufficient space to pop some new ones in w/out pulling the heads. I have read info on the original manufactured plugs being to "skinny" and now there are aftermarket plugs that have more depth, but I have yet to find.......

Do you have to remove the valve covers to remove them? Crap, I am checking it as we speak and there is no way of grabbing them from the outside.

I did. You're already most of the way there with the intake off. There's a bracket for the air intake between the dr side cover and the firewall. I don't think you're getting around that.

Finished mine up two weeks ago, ended up pulling the heads in order to get the damn plugs out and back in.
