I've got the Redline kit and a fuel pressure regulator w/gauge on hand, have read the instructions and looked at a number of threads on various forums about doing the swap. I'm fairly experienced (have rebuilt engines), so it shouldn't be too difficult.

One question, though, eludes me: once the swap is done, can the vacuum-hose-festooned control unit (attached to the driver's side fender) be removed, or does it still provide some function?

You may pull all the vacuum things, so long as you have no emission testing...the sole purpose of all those things.
