Some of you may remember a recent thread where I was doing a Weber carb swap on my '87 2.6l. Just to recap: everything went well, the engine runs far better than it did with the old Mikuni. Very happy and highly recommend it.

However, there's this little problem that surfaced after I did the swap: the battery light is on all the time. I've checked the alternator (putting out a steady 14.3v at idle) and the battery is in good condition. As noted in the previous thread, I've disconnected and removed all of the emission control mechanisms (we don't have inspections where I live) and disconnected the ECU. Still the battery light is on.

What am I missing? What else could it be trying to tell me?

Have you looked for shorts or corrosion across the headlight relay, light switch contacts, main and sub fusible links, voltage regulator, and the hazard and ignition switches?

These are the only things described in the FSM charging circuit diagram. The battery light should activate for low amperage, indicative of battery condition. See 1989 Montero FSM chapter 8.

Thanks — I'll check those. I'm not good with wiring diagrams!
