I'm trying to get the auto transmisson out of a 1993 Montero SR without 1st taking the engine out. Not a lot of wiggle room for both tranny and trasfer case to come out together. Is it even possible? Do I need to split off the transfer case? Or purhaps remove the transfer case output shaft to get room.
Recommendations please?

Got her dropped far enough to swap converters. What a PITA with the one cross member welded in place. At the factory the chassis and running gear gets buiilt, then the body goes on. Never mind the poor chaps that have to wrestle the bugger later.

All said and done, may have been faster, easier to pull the engine?
