Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello All,
The drivers door on my 89 Montero was sprung (hyper-extended) today and it looks like I will at least need a pair of door hinges, and I'm not sure if I can save the door yet.

Has anyone had to fix this on a GEN1 before?

Hey Chad

I havent seen this before but it would seem replacing the door hinges should do the trick. Good Luck!

Evaluation by the body shop was ~$1300. The hinges were both bent and the mounting surface on the door was pulled out. Paintwork would be required due to the depth of the dent.

Luckily, I found a suitable white door at a local yard for $85! The only issue is it was a non-LS, so the window frame needs to be painted.

$85! Way to go! Whats the name of the yard you got the door from and what model(s) do they have??

Yea, it's not perfect but much cheaper option than the original estimate of $1300. There were only (2) areas that needed to be re-worked. The lower mount of the mirror got a slight dent in and the door edge by lock also was dented in. The body shop is going to "improve" those areas and paint the upper window frame black so that it somewhat matches the rest of the windows. I'll still keep looking for a better example to upgrade at a later date.

I really wish I still had access to the one that was in the local U-Pull a year ago...
