Need a Spot
About to get a 91 Montero RS with the 3.0l v6 and auto.
Has a new engine installed but a leaking valve cover and that tapping sound that I hear about and seen a video of. How can a new engine tap ?
Best I can tell a 91 doesn't have the hydrologic VLA , correct or not ?
Is it harmful any ?
Body looks awesome, inside has ugly old and dirty blue. Lol
Has Pajero rims that match perfectly. I'll have updates and pics as soon as it's in my parking spot. Lol
Need to learn all I can about this truck.
Was told this is the best place to be for it. Thanks for having me.

I'm pretty sure all the 6G72 engines have hydraulic Valve Lash Adjusters.

Try these ....
Replace the oil filter with a Mitsubishi oil filter.

Thank you. Yeah I seen that but wasn't sure about it.
This on sounds bad at start-up, then slowly gets better, shut it off, back on and it taps all over again. New motor though, my thinking is air in it more so than a stuck ball valve. Sounds like the front passenger side.
He was thinking it had to do with the bad air temp sensor as it coded out for it, maybe making an injector act funny, and you smell fuel like a choke would be on, told him no it may be bad but that's no making it tap.
I do feel better knowing what it is, but when I take possession of it I'll work with it and see, may need to do the wire in the hole trick.

We will see, everything I read says these are awesome trucks though.
Thanks.

Many off the shelf oil filters don't have a good anti-drain back valve. This lets the oil drain back thru the filter, allowing air into oil galleries. A new Mitsubishi oil filter could be a quick and easy fix.
