Two weeks ago I purchased a 1991 Montero RS LWB.
Ive wanted another one since selling the one that was my first car 18 years ago.
Not running, no title so ended up getting it for $500.
Sellers story about the title seems legitimate and everything seems to be in relatively good shape so I figured worse case scenario its a nice parts rig.

My plan is to get it running, then apply for a bonded title. In the meantime, I can use it as a run around on my property. Right now, I think it's the coil causing the no start issue. The coil is arcing arcing across it's body.
Didn't dig much further, figured that is an issue that needs to be resolved before trouble shooting further.

Anyways while poking around I found what I assume to be some kind of broken temperature sensor.
I have attached an image. In the image the broken sensor is circles in red. There's is another disconnected sensor circled in blue and what looks like the connector circled in white. What is the broken sensor? And does the other sensor need to be connected? It looks the connector was tied up from the factory.

You may want to cruise thru www.mitsubishilinks.com
There are a number of manuals there. The service manuals are handy. There is a parts manual that has some better diagrams of where the parts are located.

A donation to the site is always a good thing. I have no affiliation to the site, other than contributing a few manuals.

MarkG - I had found www.mitsubishilinks.com previously. Once i figured out it was a coolant temp sensor I was able to find the appropriate pages in the FSM. Ill check out the parts manual as well. Hopefully between replacing the coil, that coolant temp sensor, and the old plug wires I broke trying to test for spark, I can get it running.

B_Line - Im excited. This Monteros body and interior is in much better shape than my first. Apparently much of its life it was towed behind an rv. It came with a tow bar, brake controller, and there is a driveshaft disconnect installed on the rear driveshaft.

Hey that's great news. Already a couple steps ahead.

An update - I posted some photos of it on MMUSA facebook group and someone recognized it and gave me the following information: The 1989 Mitsubishi Air Condition installation manual refers to it as a “water temperature switch”. The part number is MB568959.

That part looks correct, I have one ordered.

I have also attached a photo of that sensor out of the engine.
