With this project where I am swapping a 6G75 Mivec backed by a paddle shifted 5 speed into what was originally a 4D56 3 Dr Pajero.
This is by far not the first Mivec to be swapped into a RWD chassis, but it might be the first to use the Mivec PCM to properly control the engine as well as shift a RWD transmission. In this case the Asian V5A51 donated from a 3rd Gen Montero.
I purchased this chassis as a roller last September from over in Oregon. The transport company had it in my yard on Oct 14th and by the 21st the engine was delivered.

And to go yet another step different I will also be utilizing the full Mivec intake manifold and long tube headers allowing that once properly tuned this engine should provide power into the 320Hp range with no loss of low end torque.
Since the day of that photo quite a bit has been done, the engine is mated to the transmission and mounted in the chassis.
Allot of wiring has been done, at this time that is over 400 Hrs of research and hundreds of soldered splices. Still plenty more to do.

More later.

Cheers, Charlie

Yes, this 2008 engine has 82,000 miles and had recently been through a dealer service. I was able to purchase it with most of it's accessories, full driveline harness and portions of in chassis bits. These being the throttle pedal, diagnostic port and other portions of chassis harness.

These next posts from me will be a recap of this project done over the past half year, for me I am a bit stunned since parts of this have consumed many more hours than anticipated. What project doesn't.

I am melding the original 2008 Eclipse PCM harness to the 3rd gen Montero transmission, and both of these are blended into the RHD '93 Pajero chassis / body. My original estimate to build the harness was in the 450 - 500 hr range. I am just over that now and feel I have about 100 more to go, which was my estimate 300 hrs ago.
As such the original Eclipse powertrain control unit will both run the engine and shift the transmission. The original cable throttle is now throttle by wire. I intend to add paddle shifters to the Pajero column so both the floor shifter and paddles can be utilized in Sport / Manual mode. I kind of desire to add cruise control too which is fully incorporated within the PCM but there is simply a space conflict on the steering column where the paddleshifters and cruise switch need share real estate. I will run the wires for each and figure this out later.

The transfer case is the electrically shifted Gen 3 unit so this utilizes a processor and wires. Not my favorite idea but all my SR T cases are mated to something be it the SR I currently drive or the custom 6 speed manual I built for a Montero, that may well be my next project which is an all independent suspended twin turbo driveline. I can post pics of some of this later. Not sure if that one will be under my old red 87 or an SR body. Original thinking was to shorten a Gen 2 down but no need for that since I now own the real thing. I almost wrote "The real Monti"
A few images, I apologize for the clutter in my shop but it is no different than what is inside my head since this is not my only project I am working on at this time.
This pic was shot back in mid Sept '20 and is part way through the disassembly of the transmission wiring prep before the engine had arrived.

I hope these photos open well on each persons device, this seems to be the default for how Imgur presents the photos.

Seven days after the Pajero arrived from Oregon the engine arrived from Massachusetts, It is a bit salty like most everything around here. It has 82K on it and had recently had a 75K dealer service before the previous owner found a way to wreck the car. Nice part about a recently serviced engine is while I have to convert it to RWD I do not feel the need to replace the T belt and rollers. While swapping the valve covers and intake around I found the inside of the engine is spotless. But for now, it's arrival.

The wire harness was nicely bundled as well. The alternator and AC compressor were included in this "kit"
