Getting a ReMan from the parts store.
If it still wont fire It still could be the distributor or Ignitor.

Need to know what to do with the idle control unit.. just unplug it ?
Really dont need that anyway as the whole AC unit has been removed.

Yep, just unplug the IAC valve. Yours seems to be a six-pin stepper unit, so to do a simple bench test you can check the resistance of the two coils inside. Here's how you'd do that for a 97 Montero Sport 3.0, the resistance values given and pin orientation is probably the same for your unit: https://workshop-manuals.com/mitsub...component_tests_and_general_diagnostics/

To fully test it, you'd need to drive the stepper motor and compare to expected values, but that's out of my knowledge. Maybe someone on here knows how to set up a jig?

PS: common failure mode for misbehaving/seized IAC valves is clogging of actuator with oil (e.g. from failed/malfunctioning PCV valve), so removing it and giving it a good cleaning may be helpful. Also, the IAC valve works downstream of the coolant temp sensor. While you're climbing around the engine bay checking sensors, you may want to check that one as well.

Your coolant temp sensor should be the standard Negative Temperature Coefficient thermistor type (resistance across single terminal and base varies with temperature; lower temp yields higher resistance). Looks like the part number is MD091056 and was used for about 20 years, from 1987 to 2007 (and is generally a simple, very reliable part). Here's how the sensor is supposed to be tested from the 2001 Pajero WSM, section 54A, pg 32 (same sensor as yours):

If you could find a resistance-temperature table for that part, you could test it without removal by heating the coolant and checking for correct resistance output.

PS: If you have rust issues, it could be that the connection with the base of the temp sensor has high resistance due to excessive rust. Taking it out, cleaning and sanding flat the mating surfaces may help.
