Need a Spot
Hi Montero fans,

Is the 1991 gen 1 LS extremely picky about its transmission fluid? I am trying to decide on ordering Mitsubishi fluid vs whatever is at the local auto store.

My 1991 LS automatic has started to exhibit tranny issues. I have been towing lately. Lost reverse first, now won't shift into overdrive. Never an issue before. Fluid level ok, but dirty. I am going to start by replacing, maybe flushing, the transmission fluid.

Any other tips are welcome!

Roll Me Over
I would strongly advise using a name brand Dextron / ATF 2 fluid, and NOT use some $12 Qt synthetic. The seals and friction plates are not engineered for the new chemicals and have been known to fail soon after a change. Some will say they have been able, but then why spend the excessive money on a gamble.

Cheers, Charlie

Thanks, I purchased some Mitsubishi Diamond ATF from eBay.

That said... I think the transmission is telling me it needs replaced.
