How exactly do you reset your speedometer for bigger tires?

There is a small gear in your transmission which plugs into your speedo cable. If you replace this your problems are solved. I think generally people just live with it, because I haven't seen much in the way of discussion or products offered.

That box only works for speedos with electronic speed sensors. I KNOW that Isuzu didn't use these 91 and earlier... not sure when they did switch over.

As far as I know, Isuzu has a limited number of speedo gears. At best, you may be able to go up or down one tooth (you want to go down one tooth to make it turn faster for bigger tires). Pulling yours out and counting the teeth will let you know exactly what you have. Work from there. The problem comes when you buy the new gear. They are all tagged by part number, not tooth count. The trucks with 4.77s and 31's are going to have the largest tooth count available. (I think it is 18)

Now, there is rumor that the gears out of the Toyota trannys will work. Which ones and which year? I do not know, but there is more selection. Give it a try and let us know.

Good Luck,
Michael

I'm also looking for a solution. I upsized to 31" tires. The dealer was not helpful at all. Not at all like the dealer for my Ford truck where they even had a table by tire size vs. gear ratio and recommended spedo gears.
If anyone finds a solution, please post. Thank you.
Jim

Here are a few part numbers passed on to me by a good friend.

8944733080 16 Teeth
8970120851 17 Teeth
8944733040 18 Teeth
8944733031 19 Teeth
8944733021 20 Teeth

The best thing you can do is pull your old one and make calculations from there.

Michael

Michael,
Thank you for the info. I assume they are Isuzu numbers. I will pull my gear and calculate what I need to order, then post something about my success.
