When I turn the steering wheel and hit any irregularity in the road, the car usually grunts and groans in the front. I suspect worn struts are causing the noises. Then again, if a car's age is reckoned like a dog's age (1 year = 7 years), then my '96 is about as old as I am. So maybe it's natural!

very possible it could be a multitude of things. check everything that should have grease, bushings, bearings, balljoints and anything that moves when you turn. it will take a while, but when you quit hearing it, you have replaced enough parts.
i'm guessing either balljoints, TRE's, Idler Arm or steering box.

I'm pretty sure I have somewhat the same problem and I think I narrowed it down to the Idler arm assembly.

Bad lower ball joints. Sounds like the noises mine was making at one time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yes, you were supposed to get back to me with a quote on shipping ....... Remember. But yes, I will take the stuff I asked about. If you have one I also need the drop link bolt/ball joint for the pass side sway bar. My ball joint broke off and I can't reattach the sway bar.
