IIRC you're looking for 6N7 or 6NZ, which equates to the big tire option more than the gears

Or look for the actual option code for 4.77's: S2J

Trooper option codes That link has many (all?) of the option codes and their meaning for Isuzus.

Sweet -- now you have all the info you need to decode the tag... but remember, there's no telling WHAT gears are in there FOR SURE without counting teeth or rotation.

Sean, I may have missed it somewhere in this thread, but where are these codes located? VIN, Glove box? I have decided to do a little eyeballing around here for old Troopers in peoples yards that may want to be rid of them. There is only a few junkyards around here that have Troopers and they are pretty proud of them as far as prices for there parts. Also from what I have gathered here I will be looking for a 2 door with 31x10.50's and which kind of wheels? I have seen quite a few 4 doors running around here with the snowflake wheels an 31's. Thanks, CJ

It has to be an RS, not just any 2 door will do.

The wheels that came stock on my RS look like this (not sure what you guys call em around here):

Those are same wheels that came on my LS. I called them "ugly" myself <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

The tag is on the firewall on the passenger's side.

on 1st gens, snowflake wheels tend to be a good indicator of 4.77's, they are the wheels that came with the big tire package.

Another question. Did the big tire/4.77 package all come with Aisin hubs or were some auto? I have never seen a Trooper with factory manuals in my part of the country, only Pup's and Rodeos.

Mine are auto..

I'm confused.. are you looking for an RS or for a shot in the dark LWB Trooper with 4.77's? I don't know if it's ever been confirmed (seen in person) a non-RS that had 4.77's from the factory? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I'm looking for a old wrecked Trooper with 4.77's I don't care about the actual vehicle just the gears. If I call a junkyard they will probably not have any and if they do they will want big bucks for them cause they will know how rare they are. Now if I see a Trooper RS sitting in someones yard or pasture I could probably get the whole thing for a couple hundred bucks because more than likely the owner doesn't know what they got. If they did it probably wouldn't be sitting there rusting away.
