Just wanted to say hello...and thanks for all of the information I've been able to glean from the forum in the past couple of weeks. I just got my T100 and now it rides smooth after having the wheels properly balanced. I have the clutch bracket on order from Gettel, and have arranged for the firewall welding. According to Toyota my head gasket does not fall under the SSC-X01. After I got the truck I was able to track down the previous owner...the second owner, who was proud to say that all he ever had to do was change the oil and put in gas...well, now I know it needs everything it should have had done in 130,000 miles. All he had done recently was brakes and tires. I just did the clutch, shocks are on the way, the timing belt and everything around it is next. Suprisingly, in spite of the benign neglect and it's life in salty Massachusetts it's in pretty good shape. It has pretty much been a highway commuter. This is a great forum...hope I'll have something to contribute in the future...Mike

I need to get this done (the lube from last summer has stopped working ). What info do you have, did you call Toyota and get instructions/diagram? Just wondering where the welds are made, how much disassembly is required, etc. I have access to welding and welders, so I'd like to address this issue once and for all. Thanks for any help.

Welcome Mike!

What year is your T100?

firewall welding is this a 5-speed issue only?

I think they are talking about where the clutch bracket goes through the firewall. Some people, including me, have had problems with cracking around the bolt holes for the master cylinder and clutch bracket. Many have welded the cracks in the firewall to strengthen and reduce further damage. Check your firewall to see if it is cracked.

Mine had small ones and I didn't feel they would get worse with the new bracket and backing plate.

Here are the part numbers from an ealier post
55107-34030 "Support sub-Assy" (this is the bracket) $68.82
55113-34010 "plate, clutch ped" (backing plate) $6.24
Also on this same invoice:
the two little round bushings that either end of the clucth pedal return spring sit in 90386-04009 $2.16 each

Doh!! You're probably right. I was thinking the popping, creaking firewall syndrome, not the clutch bracket breaking the firewall. (We really need the smiley of the guy slapping his own head Frank Costanza-style).

I'm welding the firewall where it has started to crack at one of the clutch bracket mounting bolts. The new bracket and mounting plate may be strong enough but I don't want to have to address this problem again. It should be a pretty easy weld job once the bracket is removed and the cylinder is moved aside. A good welder should be able to finesse it no problem. I used Gettel Toyota in Florida for the parts. Even with 3-day shipping it was cheaper than the closest stealership to me. ...Mike
