The recall was for a 'scratch' on the surface of the ball (if I remember correctly) so unless they disassemble them I doubt they would even know how many were 'defective'.

Getting the Wheeling Fever

I've been procrastinating. I'm leery about going to a dealer for repairs since a friend of mine whom was a service manager told me every dealership he's worked at, there have been mechanics who sabotage vehicles so they return for repair (replace something with worn out parts, etc) - it's their bread and butter. I have a 2002 runner with 80,000 miles with no steering issues. Do you guys advise I take it in? Hearing earlier on this thread, "after analylizing parts replaced, havent found a set yet that was bad" furthers my procrastination.

You're right...my fault. I was thinking of the other recall (relay rod) for the older trucks...

I'm still debating, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I was wrong about my mileage. I have 69,000 but steering feels brand new. * called toyoter in Vancouver. They said there is no expiration date. I'm wondering if I should just wait until they are worn but then again it could cause my tires to wear out of alignment - ok, new tires so I might as well go do it.

I hadn't heard from the dealer from whom I purchased my '04 Tacoma, so I called them today. He ran the VIN and said this campaign did not apply to my truck (it doesn't apply to all VINs).
Is he blowing smoke, or have others had the same experience?

Probably blowing the biggest smoke ever. I got a recall notice for my 04 truck several months ago, but I havent taken it in. I'll wait until I get my cornfed spacers in a few weeks then take it in so I can get the thing aligned.
