If you're referring to the lower ball joint SSC, it will be going on thru December. Expect a letter sometime between now & then.

Thanks Geek! I think it was for the 2002 4 Runners and Tacomas. Any idea what years are involved?

I agree, thanks for the "sticky", it's unusual to see a Toyota be recalled.

As others have probably already seen, I found this article on the MSN homepage today. It doesn't seem to mention anything about late model gen 3 4runners, but does include model years 1990-1995. Are there 2 different recalls, or are these for the same issue? link to article is below. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9241475/

The recall sticky'd here is for the ball joints; the one you and others mention in the T100 section is for the steering linkage. Edit: Link to Post for Steering recall

Yes, there are 2 recalls
Unfortunately my other post was merged with this one, and I've received a couple of pm's from folks who are a bit confused.
My first entry was moved/edited into this thread, and pertained to the rod relay recall.
My other entry with 3 links to it in this thread is the original post for the ball joint recall.
Hope that clears the water a bit.
In either case, as someone had mentioned elsewhere, you should insist on a front end alignment to follow up on the maintenance relative to these recalls.

I just made the appointment for this upcoming Wednesday afternoon, apparently i am the first one in the Grand Forks, ND area to have this warranty work done, but at least they had the parts and were ready for me. It was also interesting to see that my truck did go in for the "V06" campaign work in 1998.

hey, i've just call toyota canada & got confirmed that i fall under the recall campaign. Sweet. Question is, does it come with a free alignment too? That would be great as I haven't had one for a over a year! (Hope they'll figure things out with the 32's, balljoint spacers & cranked torsion bars..."most importantly, hope they won't reset the front end back to the stock height...")

...I forgot about the head gasket recall... sorry dude but you're really too late, you should have gotten the HG recall done when you still had the 3VZE in there.....unless you really DON'T have the 5VZFE and you're pullin our chains.....AGAIN!!

I got my recall letter just this last Friday! Kinda surprised to see that in the mail, but hey...
Anyway, they did the replacement yesterday and the truck seems to drive better than it did before I brought it in!
I didn't get a chance to ask if the original steering rod was damaged or was on the brink of being dangerous, but I kinda doubt that it was. Oh well! A free part is a free part!

My 89 4Runner doesn't fall under the relay rod recall. However, it has a salvage title because in was in a front-end collision. I have no idea if this part was damaged and replaced by whomever repaired the damage.
Is there some way for me to tell if my relay rod is one of the defective ones by looking at it?

Call the dealer and give them your VIN if your eligble they tell and then order your parts.I recieved a card from the dealer called them back they ordered the parts then let me know when they were in.I called them Mon to make an appointment and I cant get in till Apr 21st, so the sooner you start the process the sooner you can get it done Russ

i must say, it was an awsome thing getting two letters in the mail in december... 1 for my 90 pickup 4x4, and 1 for my 90 4runner 4x4 sr5. -pickup- you all shoulda seen the face on the guy at the dealership when i pulled into the dealership with my truck and he seen the odometer... and i already knew my steering was shot dew to a jump earlier that month over a road lol. long story short the truck got over 2 grand into for free. on a 412,000 mile truck! -4runner- wasnt even on the road! bought it for the motor, used a 1 way plate to get it home. it's nickname is "tetnus" well called the dealership and said "you guys wanna pick it up?" and since i was less than a mile away, they actually did! the guy that came over to get it looks at me and said " has this EVER been washed? or is it just a winter ride?" 44s cant be good in the snow!"(my 85) anyways toyota is obviously the best customer treating company in my oppinion.

I got mine done this weekend. They set the toe but not the camber. Bottom of my tires are definately angled in. It looks like an old Beetle. So now I have to get it aligned on my own dime. Oh yeah - they noted that my idler arm had play but wanted $307 to repair it. I'll get one at Autozone for $90 thankyou very much.

They are required to give you a full alignment. I'd go back and speak with the service manager.
