Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to do a clutch job and I want to have a spare, freshly cut flywheel standing by in case the mechanic needs it. I have located a used N/A diesel Isuzu Pup flywheel but does anyone know for sure if it's the same flywheel as the Turbo diesel? The guy selling it seems to think so.

Other parts I have for the job:
new clutch disk
new pressure plate
new shaft bearing
new rear main seal
new clutch cable (not hydraulic)
new throwout bearing
new trans long shaft seal

Can you think of anything else while I have the transmission out that I should take care of?
The truck is a 1986 (4/86)Isuzu Trooper C223TD with 380k on her.

Jesse--

I am about to do a clutch job on my n/a C223 (upgraded to turbo) and have been looking at the flywheels I have in inventory. The n/a flywheel has a flange around the faceplate whereas the turbo flywheel has no such flange. Perhaps this will make the turbo unit lighter than the n/a unit. Otherwise they appear to be interchangeable.

I would like to know more about this myself as I am thinking of using the turbo flywheel to improve the acceleration of my engine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Another question re swapping flywheels; are the flywheels and crankshafts balanced separately or are they balanced together as one unit?

Also, if it is possible to change the rear main seal with only the flywheel off, can you please elaborate on how this is done.

Thanks--

Paul

PS-- Jerry Lemond are you out there?

HEY PAUL YES THE FLYWHEEL IS SLIGHTLY DIFF IN THAT AREA BUT THEY ARE COMPLETELY INTERCHANGABLE , AND THE ENG IS BALANCED INTERNALLY, I JUST FINISHED A TURBO ENG SETUP IN A PICKUP USUNG A STANDARD FRONT DAMPNER AND THE STANDARD AUTOMATIC FLYWHEEL , , AS THERE WAS NEVER A TURBO AUTOMATIC, AND IT RUNS JUST GREAT AND VERY SMOOTH FOR A DSL AND YES ON THE SEAL , WHILE THE FLYWHEEL IS OFF REPLACE THE SEAL , JUST BE CERTAIN AND REPLACE THE LARGE RING THAT GOES BETWEEN THE SEAL AND THE REAR OF THE BLOCK IT IS A SPACER AND IT MUST BE THER OR IT WILL LEAK, JUST PACK THE SEAL WITH SOME CHASSIS GREASE WHERE THE GARTER SPRING IS , SO IT DOESN,T JUMP OUT WHEN YOU DRIVE IT IN JERRY

Jerry--

Many thanks for the 'straight scoop' on these questions. I will, indeed, put in a new rear seal when I do my clutch.

Paul
