Lots of options, 1/2 of an 8" pipe cap, most places make weld-on protectors, this is what I run:

Mine rusted through there and is leaking. I plan on patching mine with JB Weld. If theres no internal damage then maybe just fill the dent with JB Weld.

might want to unplug your breather while you're at it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

so my question is like how much clearence is there between the diffy cover and the ring gear.... like it wasnt maken any noise so i dont think it hit but how much room do i have.... and the hell im gonna get some DAMN heavy armor for it i did the front after slightly denting it this is just absurd... lol funny cause i was sayen to myself a few weeks ago... why do u need one on the rear.... i mean im goen forward all the time... *sigh* HELLOOOOO Karma

THis is what i did to my front the marlin armor should i just do the same for the rear or somethen more then that?

Not sure of the exact clearance, probably 1/2" or so. I have a dent about that size in my old narrow housing. Got it in the Little Sluice on the Rubicon at night, trying to back up for a better line on Toyota Rock. Once my shaved and plated rear housing is installed in back, should not have to worry about that again. Will also be noving that vulnerable brake hardline up on top of the axle while I am at it. Same rock that dented the diff cover also nearly took out the brake line on mine.

so do u think i can just slap a piece of armor over that and weld it on and be all set or would it be nessicary to take the third out and pound it back out... i JUST put redline in there so i dont really wanna have to drain it out =(.

If it is not rubbing, it is probably fine. Or you could drain the oil and save it for re-use and pound out the dent if you are worried about it. If you leave a gap aroudn the dent when you weld the protection on, you could always hammer it out the next time you take the diff out for whatever reason.

what aplication of diffy cover would you sugest allpros looks to completly cover the area where as marlins just covers the ring gear sensitive part. what would be best in my situation? also marlin is only 25 bucks and allpro is 69 bucks.

Anything will work, make your own even. My old front axle just had a scrap of bent steel plate welded to the front, picked it up out of the scrap pile at welding class, so cost nothing. A half a pipe cap is another option, probably get one for under $20, cut it in half and sell the other half to someone else.
