damn. nobody ever said anything about a recall down here. The dealerships will probably take forever to get in touch with me. everyone down here is still worried about recovering from the hurricane the delears dont give a damn about telling anyone about a recall. i am glad that i looked on here and saw this otherwise i probably would never have found out till the damn thing broke on me.

Get a grip!!!! This recall was announced WAAAAAAY ahead of the hurricanes. In fact, it was on www.foxnew.com and www.cnn.com. The original post date here was the first week of AUGUST. I'd say more, but this should suffice.

Took my T-100 1997 in today for the recall repair. They had the truck only about 30 minutes and called to inform me that my truck needed a new ball joint ($125) and a new idler arm $250 part, $50 labor). I told them no thanks, but I did go for the cooling system flush, since it has not yet been done.
They said I needed a water pump replaced also because there was a small leak. If I get that done is their anything else I could get done while they have it apart other than the timing belt?
Thanks, Brad

I just got the recall finally as well. They didn't try to sell me anything else... they know I do most of my own work. =)
Additionally, one of the screws holding my skidplate on had been lost... they replaced it for free without even commenting. As far as dealerships go, I've found a winner.

Last week my water pump locked up. fried the timing belt and the motor stalled. after replacing the pump and timing belt got it running. 3 days later it quit again. It seems the idler and tensioner pulleys/bearings were either affected by the antifreeze or they just went south. anyway the seals on both the bearings fell into the path of the timing belt and it jumped time. junked the new timing belt 34.00 and had to buy new pulleys 112.00 and 97.00. toyota only part. I would check thoes parts if you are in there. if toyota is going to do it im sure they will let you know if they are bad.

Thank you for the information. How many miles on your vehicle? Mine has 90,000. Would be a shame to have to replace the idler arm after just having been in there to do the water pump and the timing belt. Brad

hey i do have a grip it aint my fault if the damn dealerships down hear dont tell anyone about recalls till way after everyone else know about it. I am just saying that now it will take them even longer to tell anyone about the recall because everything down here is still so screwed up and backed up. I dont check news websites so i did not know recalls were posted about the truck my only way of finding out is either this site which i just got back on or by waiting for the dealership to notify me.

well, I figgured I'd procrastonated long enough and took my T in yesterday morning. It only took the dealer 27 hours to get it done ~ I guess they had a problem vehicle scheduled infront of mine yesterday. Got me a free wash and wax though (needed, badly). Absolutly NO comment about the idler arm, or any other additional parts. Quite the contrary actually, the service manager said it was one of the cleanest T's they'd delt with, and certainly THE cleanest with 150k miles on it. Kind of shocking to me, as I've not ecactly been kind to the truck with all the towing (and overheating of the tranny) I've been doing.
Anyway, I think the alignment was needed as it seems to drive a little nicer now (in town, haven't been on the highway yet). Could just be my imagination though. Glad it's done and behind me.... and they didn't screw up my doors, or any other part of the truck. Maybe I'll actually let them do a major service sometime in the future...
Creeper, I didn't drop your name ~ maybe I should have to get quicker service. Then again, maybe I Still wouldn't have the truck back if I had dropped your name.
