This is just my opinion and others may disagree but I would not waste my money on either. The filtering qualities of both suck!!!!! I had a FPIK on my Tundra and it ran worse then when it was stock. I ran a K&N drop in my 3.0 and when I went to clean the TB there was about a quarter inch of dirt in the intake tube between the TB and the air cleaner!!!!

i think that amsoil or just a plain wix filter would be the way to go.

Just another opinion....I wouldn't use one unless you don't plan on keeping your rig.
Supposedly those filters do breath better, but at an expense. Racing is where they originated (I think), but those guys tear down their engines every year (or more)....so I'm told by a friend that races short track. He said the trick is to cram the biggest filter/box you can get into the engine bay.

same thing with me... but with worse results.

so after years of oiling my K&N. decided to go to pismo. pismo has FINE sand.

sure enough, a combination of the rubber saggin and big movement of the filter, allowed a small seam to develop.

sand go in past the filter and into the MAF sensor, which was at the time just GOOPED in K&N fluid.

so, the vane got stuck in the open position, telling the computer lots of air is going in. so the computer told the fuel pump to let more fuel in, leading to a LEAN condition...

sucked...

anyone wanna buy a cheap 3.0 K&N filter, still in bag, cheap?

Don't waster your money on either one. I bought a MAF adapter and cone shaped filter off Ebay for $19.95 and it has been working great. I had to remove the original air filter housing and bend up a couple of brackets from hardware store metal, but it's in place nice and firm and I've been getting 20 mpg all summer with it.

I've had the K&N cone filter and intake on my 88 4runner for 4 years with no problems. It's gotten caked with sand, covered in mud, packed with logging road dust and still comes out clean every time I wash it. I looked inside my MAF and intake a couple weeks ago while replacing a bad water pump. Both were clean, neither had been touched since 2001.

Actually too much fuel is RICH, not lean.

Aftermarket filters, if perfectly clean and oiled perfectly, will filter as well as a cheap paper filter. Problem is that they never stay in said perfect condition, leading to potential problems. For the 1-2hp improvement it is not worth it to risk your engine. The only aftermarket filter that I would reccomend is AEM. They use a dry, plastic filter rather then the oiled, cotten/screen filters such as K&N, etc. AEM are supposed to filter to 1 micon. But I am sure that if you can find one that they will cost more then they are worth.
