Just to be sure... was the vehicle out of gear when checking the crankshaft? I've made that mistake when I did mine. Won't turn if in gear.

Can you tell us a few more details? If you say the cams turn but the crank doesn't. Does that mean that you took the timing belt off again? Please fill us in. It moved around like a washing-machine that is out of balance, but did not fire. I just saw that note from your post. That is a really bad sign.

Yes. We took the timing belt back off. The crankshaft will not budge. I believe my friend even took the intake back off, and the plugs out. Now, I'm in search of an engine I guess.

You're supposed to try and rotate the engine over with the belt STILL WRAPPED and installed on the engine. If your rotating the crankshaft only with the Tbelt off, surely your going to run into an open intake/exhaust valve which will stop the rotation. No offense meant but my 1st suggestion is to get another mechanic friend.

I think Joel hit the nail on the head. Fire your friend and tow your car to a real mechanic. Hopefully the dealer. It will be worth an hour of their time to tell you if anything is salvagable.

Joel, CA Unfortunately, the FSM has an error in this regard. I dunno if that same error has made it into the 3rd party service manuals.
